Ghana makes investment pitch at Africa Business Summit

Ghana has renewed its call for international investment, presenting the country as a gateway to Africa’s growing market at the Africa Business Investment Summit in Washington DC.

Speaking on behalf of President John Dramani Mahama, Deputy Trade Minister Sampson Ahi said Ghana’s economic reforms, industrialisation drive and role as host of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) Secretariat made it an attractive investment destination.

He highlighted opportunities in agriculture, energy, technology, mining, manufacturing, tourism and infrastructure.

Mr Ahi said Ghana’s economy grew by 6% in 2025, with non-oil GDP expanding by 7.6%, while first-quarter growth in 2026 reached 6.4%.

He also promoted the government’s 24-Hour Economy and Feed Ghana programmes, aimed at increasing production, creating jobs and reducing imports.

The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, urged investors to take Africa’s opportunities seriously and called on governments to strengthen good governance and create conditions for sustainable investment.

Ghana’s ambassador to the US, Victor Smith, said investment should help create jobs and opportunities for Africa’s young people, reducing the need for them to leave the continent in search of better prospects.

Mr Ahi ended his address with a call to action: “We gathered to invest in Africa, and to build it.”
